Caring For Your Carpet

New carpets can be quite a costly investment, and need to be properly maintained and cared for if one is to enjoy all of its wonderful benefits. Some of the advantages of having a carpet properly cared for, is an extended carpet life that could last for many years, a great looking appearance, extended carpet life as well as better hygiene.
Without doubt, the most important step to keeping your carpets looking great for many years, is the daily routine maintenance. This is best achieved using a vacuum cleaner with strong suction power, which not only cleans the top surface, but also lifts dirt that might be embedded beneath the surface, provided that this is done on a regular basis.
Regular vacuuming also prevents surface dirt from settling into the deep recesses of the carpet fibre, which if left unattended, could be virtually impossible to extract once the carpet is older.
The vacuuming process should be undertaken, at least three times a week, depending on the area of use and amount of foot traffic experienced, with more frequent cleaning recommended for very busy areas such as passages, and TV rooms due to the amount of dirt that accumulates on a daily basis.
Vacuum cleaning might initially not seem very important especially with new carpets, as surface dust is not visible to the naked eye when it is settled on the carpet fabric. However, if this is left unattended, the surface dust slowly seeps into the deeper recesses of the carpet fibre, complicating any future cleaning and also negatively the natural appearance of the carpet

Another important requirement for keeping your carpets looking good, is to use doormats, when entering from the outside to a carpeted room. Indoor walk - off mats should also be used in areas where a tiled area leads to a room which is carpeted; example: a tiled kitchen that leads to a dining room with carpets, should have a walk - off mat at the entrance of the carpeted room.

The services of professional carpet cleaners should be utilised periodically to give the carpet a deep clean which lifts any dirt that is embedded beneath the surface, which cannot be removed with normal vacuuming.
Carpet cleaning is also useful in removing stains that could be caused by accidental spill etc.
Another positive for hiring professional carpet cleaners, is the hygienic factor, as most, if nor all carpet cleaners make use of powerful disinfectants in their cleaning process, which kill most known bacteria.
We would recommend making use of such a service at least twice annually.

You have just had your carpets professionally cleaned, and they look absolutely amazing...
One problem however, a few days later, the same old nasty stains and marks which you thought were a thing of the past, start reappearing on the surface of the carpet.

How Awefull.. Now does'nt that just suck?
This problem is experienced quite frequently in the industry, which leaves the client quite frustrated at having paid for a job which they thought to have been well done, but are instead left with carpets that look even worse then what they did prior to cleaning.
So the question is why did the stains come back, and who is to blame?
Firstly, the age of the carpet, is a significant contribution to stains reappearing on the surface, as dirt that is unable to be lifted out of the carpet during the normal vacuum process, accumulates over the years, thus  becoming deeply embedded in the fibres of the carpet. This is particularly prevalent in high traffic areas, such as doorways.
Another reason, is the carpet backing (this is the bottom of the carpet, usually constructed out of latex rubber or jute in older carpets) which disintegrates, and becomes very brittle over a long period of time, which means that any liquid on the surface, can easily seep down into the dirty underlay, as the surface of the carpet then dries, it absorbs the damp and dirty solution from the beneath the carpet, which then becomes partly visible on the surface of the carpet.
Liquid spills, that are not mopped up immediately, are absorbed, and penetrate the carpet backing (as shown in the adjacent picture which shows the bottom side of a stained carpet) are another reason that these appear back on the surface.

Finally the biggest cause of stains reappearing on the surface of the carpet, is the lack of proper and regular care of the particular carpet, which involves the day to day vacuuming process, mopping up of liquid spills as they happen and regular professional cleaning. If regular carpet maintenance is undertaken, it is relatively safe to say that you will never have a problem with stains that reappear on the surface.
One notable observation, is that most people tend to neglect their carpets continually for many years, they then call in professional carpet cleaners to work a bit of magic, which is not always possible.
The best solution would then seem to be one of prevention, rather than cure.

Although this is not the fault of the cleaners, a competent professional carpet cleaning company, should be able to foresee this potential problem, and advise the customer accordingly.

Remove / Clean / Replace Carpet

Minimum Charge:

from: R1200

Remove / Clean / Replace: Sometimes, carpets are just so dirty and stained and smelly that normal cleaning isn't an option at all, this situation is sometimes prevalent in homes where untrained household pets are kept indoors, where dirt and stains accumulate over a long time. The next best thing to fitting new carpets, is to remove the old carpets and felt, refit a brand new underfelt, place carpet on paving or cement slab, wetting it thoroughly with a garden hose as well{/AC}

We use the hot water extraction carpet cleaning method, also commonly known as "steam cleaning"
This is by far the most widely used method for cleaning carpets all across the world, due to it being the most effective cleaning method over the widest range of carpet types, compared to other methods which are only effective on certain types of carpets, as well as certain preferred conditions.
All carpet cleaning methods have their own set of unique set of advantages as well as disadvantages, non more so than the extraction cleaning method, who's positives by far outweigh the negatives over the widest range of carpets, giving you the best carpet cleaning experience that is possible.
The one minor drawback with this particular cleaning system, is the drying time of the carpet, which could possibly take up to 24 hours, and sometimes even longer depending on certain a certain set of conditions.
This is however a very small price to pay for the best cleaning system currently on the market.
